Urban7 recognised as official G7 Engagement Group - Nancy to host U7 Mayors’ Summit

The G7 Urban7 (U7) has been formally recognised as an official G7 Engagement Group under the French G7 Presidency in 2026. The recognition marks a significant step forward in embedding the voice of local and regional governments in global decision-making on economic transition and resilience.
Cities and territories play a central role in implementing international policies on the ground, from climate action and social cohesion to resilience and democratic governance. The U7 now enters the G7 process as the institutional platform representing these perspectives.
An International U7 Mayors’ Summit will take place in Nancy, France, from 2 to 4 June 2026, ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit later that month. The announcement was made on 29 January at a press conference hosted by France Urbaine and the City of Nancy, alongside ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.
The Summit will convene mayors and local leaders from all G7 countries, as well as beyond, national and international city associations, networks and partners to develop shared political messages and policy recommendations on priorities of the French G7 Presidency.
As part of France’s G7 Presidency in 2026, France Urbaine, the Urban 7 (U7) Secretariat, the City of Nancy and the Greater Nancy Metropolitan Authority, in partnership with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will host an International Mayors’ Summit from 2 to 4 June 2026.
The Summit will provide a high-level platform for political dialogue across levels of government to address joint priority issues, selected in line with the priorities of France’s G7 Presidency, including the ecological transition, social cohesion, territorial resilience and the contribution of local and regional authorities to global governance. The Summit will be a key opportunity to reinforce multilevel governance and cooperation and ensure that international strategies respond to local realities and needs.
Further information on the Summit programme and participation will be published in the coming months.
