U7 Process

Since its launch in 2021, the G7 Urban7 (U7) advocates for and engages in continuous dialogue between the G7 nations and local governments.

We do so by providing feedback to key G7 agendas and documents, such as ministerial meetings. U7 representatives from the secretariat and local and regional political representatives have been invited to attend meetings of the Ministers responsible for urban development and to comment on the respective meeting outcome Communiqués over the years.

In addition, U7 partner networks are organising regular Mayors Summits in parallel to G7 ministerial agendas to provide visibility to the key issue areas for local communities. At these meetings, as well as at other relevant events during the year, U7 partners aim to enable direct exchanges between national ministries and local government representatives from the U7 network partners.

U7 partners are regularly publishing their position and perspective on key agenda topics of G7 ministers with local impact such as Climate and Energy, Sustainable Urban Development, Finance and Culture. These publications, which are made publicly available are shared with key contact points from national ministries to ensure they are taken into account by the responsible decision makers.
