U7 partners advance cooperation with French G7 Presidency in Paris

The Urban7 secretariat met with representatives of the French ministries in charge of urban affairs under the framework of the country's G7 Presidency in Paris in February to strengthen cooperation and advance the shared goal of ensuring meaningful involvement of local and regional governments across the G7 process.
Secretariat partners from France urbaine, ICLEI Europe, and the Global Parliament of Mayors stressed the importance of integrating local perspectives across all G7 policy tracks. They highlighted that G7 cooperation priorities, from housing, and energy to security, all have a strong territorial dimension that requires structured engagement with cities and regions.
Building on the recent recognition of the Urban7 as the official voice of local governments within the G7 framework, discussions focused on concrete next steps for collaboration with national authorities, including preparations for the Urban7 Mayors Summit taking place on 3 and4 June in Nancy, France.
The summit will bring together mayors, municipal leaders, and national and international partners from G7 countries and beyond. It is intended to mark a major step in multilevel governance by consolidating the Urban7’s role as a formal engagement group within the G7 architecture and by establishing lasting channels for cities’ contributions to G7 deliberations.
Discussions in Nancy will address key G7 priorities, including sustainable urban development, energy, climate and environment, and international cooperation, under the overarching theme of strengthening the social, democratic, environmental, and economic resilience of cities, towns, and regions worldwide.
